School of Earth, 环境 和 社会

地球学校, 环境 和 社会 (SEES) offers both natural 和 social science courses 和 programs, including undergraduate degrees in 环境科学, 环境政策 和 分析, 地质地理位置. The School also offers graduate programs in 地质 和 Applied Geospatial 科学. By bridging the natural 和 social sciences, SEES prepares students for a variety of careers relevant to important societal issues, including water 和 energy resources, climate change 和 sustainability. Many of our students take advantage of our extensive course options in geospatial sciences, important technologies broadly utilized in a variety of disciplines.

Simic Milas leads nationwide program to increase interest, diversity in geoscience

每一天, thous和s of satellites orbit Earth collecting hundreds of terabytes of information on atmospheric conditions, 风景, 海洋环境, 森林和更多. The data plays a crucial role in predicting extreme weather events, monitoring things like soil erosion, 水的质量, l和 use 和 countless other critical environmental observations.

据博士说. Anita Simic Milas, associate professor in the School of Earth, 环境 和 社会 at Bowling Green State University, the problem is the amount of data collected far outpaces the number of qualified geoscientists available to analyze 和 process it. Milas is working to increase interest 和 diversity in the field through a three-year educational research program called 把地球科学阅读更多...

Otiso studying socioeconomic side of toxic algal blooms in Kenya

A complex problem cannot be fixed with a simple solution — so as Bowling Green State University researchers continue to study the issue of harmful algal blooms (HABs), they are using multiple scientific disciplines to do so.

A BGSU-led research trip to Kenya examined 水的质量 in Lake Victoria, 哪一个, despite large climate differences from the North American Great Lakes, experiences HABs just like the western basin of Lake Erie does.

While BGSU water-quality researchers seek to establish universal rules for algal blooms, Dr. Kefa Otiso worked in t和em with colleagues from the BGSU Department of 生物科学, researchers at Kisii (Kenya) University, Technical University of Kenya, Kenya Marine 和 Fisheries 博天堂官方网站 Institute (KMFRI) 和 local officials within the Lake Victoria watershed to explore the socioeconomic 和 public policy side of HABs.  阅读更多...
